Recording Steve Reich’s Quartet

After sell-out concerts at London’s Southbank Centre and at Rotterdam’s Laurenskerk, the Colin Currie Group headed into the studio to record Steve Reich’s Quartet for two pianos and two vibraphones. They were joined by Reich himself in the studio – see photos of the day below.

The recording will be released on Nonesuch, release date to be confirmed. Follow the group on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date.

Quartet was composed for the Colin Currie Group; they gave the world premiere in 2014 at the Southbank Centre before touring the work throughout Europe. The world premiere was critically acclaimed, the Guardian praising the performance: “unassuming virtuosity and a well-nigh faultless sense of ensemble… at once hypnotic and thrilling”.

“Quartet is a pure joy, and another fascinating turn in this composer’s endeavours. Fresh, supple, haunting, it is an astounding addition to our repertoire…” – Colin Currie speaking about Quartet
