Colin Currie Group look forward to a busy 2016/17 season

The group’s 2016/17 season includes a sold out concert in Macau, Reich 80th birthday celebrations, returns to Tokyo and London, and new repertoire: Tehillim.

They begin the season on 7 October with an already sold-out debut in Macao at the 30th Macao International Music Festival, performing Reich’s Drumming just days after the composer’s 80th birthday.

Following this, on 8 November they give a performance at Cambridge Music Festival joined by Reich to perform Clapping Music with Colin Currie.

In February, the group and Reich return to Tokyo Opera City, following their success there in 2012, to give their first performances of Reich’s Tehillim.

In May, the group perform at the newly opened Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, giving two performances of Reich’s works for the Maximal Minimal Festival. They also return to the Royal Festival Hall, London, to perform Tehillim as part of the Southbank Centre’s Belief and Beyond Belief Festival and the International Chamber Music Series. This follows their sold-out performance of Music for 18 Musicians at the Royal Festival Hall in May 2016, which received glowing reviews:

“The Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals delivered in spades. Their knowledge and understanding of Reich’s music as well as their dedication and enthusiasm was evident in this mesmerising performance of three totally absorbing pieces, each different in scale and tone.”
Bachtrack, five stars, May 2016

“The joy here was the sense of communion between the visibly enthused performers and a beaming audience high on hypnotic percussion”
