Colin Currie Quartet perform at Norfolk & Norwich Festival

The Colin Currie Quartet began their summer festival season this month with a performance at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival on 20 May 2019. The programme included Joseph Pereira Mallet Quartet, Xenakis Rebonds B for solo percussion, Stockhausen Vibra – Elufa, Steve Reich Mallet Quartet, Kevin Volans Four Marimbas and Steve Reich Drumming Part 1.

The Shift Norwich website reviewed the concert:
“The speed rhythm and energy was impressive throughout the evening, though none of the first 5 pieces could come near the finale piece Drumming Part 1 composed by Steve Reich. It was like the Olympics of percussion in its performance and virtuosity.” Read the full review here.

Colin Currie launched the Colin Currie Quartet this season with a concert at Beijing’s NCPA in August 2018. The group is made up of Colin Currie, Owen Gunnell, Adrian Spillett and Sam Walton, who form the core of the Colin Currie Group.

The Quartet’s other performances this summer include Great Music in Irish Houses at Dublin Castle on 15 June, East Neuk Festival on 29 June and Wigmore Hall on 1 July for a BBC Lunchtime recital.
