Colin spoke to Josh Quillen from Sō Percussion about Steve Reich’s Drumming, which is central to Colin Currie Group’s repertoire.
When asked about what’s different about the Colin Currie Group’s approach to the piece, Colin explained the following:
“We’re hoping it’s a very expansive version … it’s quite hard-hitting and we’re not afraid to take it into darker places. Steve once referred to it as being expressionist … At the same time, I think it’s quite streamlined the way we play it, we’re very resistant to overemphasis of the downbeat”
